PPG is buying Max Meyer Duco but UK distribution for the paint brands should be unaffected.
Max Meyer Duco is the European supplier of automotive refinishes, fleet finishes and decorative coatings from Santavaleria.Pending government approvals, the purchase for an undisclosed sum should be completed by the end of the year.
No radical expansion plans, redundancies or closures are anticipated because of the acquisition, PPG said.
A company spokesman said the Max Meyer brand would not be dropped in the UK.
He said there would not be any changes made to the UK distribution arrangements, although there may be changes in countries such as Italy where Max Meyer is one of the biggest suppliers.
PPG UK managing director Andrew Mawby said: “The purchase of Max Meyer Duco is a significant step in the company’s ongoing European expansion for auto refinishes.
“It reinforces PPG’s position as leading coatings supplier to Europe’s automotive industry.
“With a well established presence in the UK, Italy, France, Germany, Greece, Spain and Switzerland, the acquisition will substantially expand our auto refinishes and fleet finishes activity across Europe, where PPG is the leading supplier of original equipment coatings.”
Max Meyer Duco, which employs 600 people, has laboratories in Milan and Naples and several refinish training centres in Europe.
